About this book

This book provides comparative, multi-disciplinary research on the surplus food distribution in Europe and its relation to food poverty, with a focus on the interaction of for-profit and non-profit organisations. It offers an informed and rich discussion in understanding the collaboration between profit and non-profit organisations involved in food recovery dynamics, and provides understanding as to how the two types of players create effective, innovative and sustainable processes. Building on sociology, food justice, and sustainable management fields, the book will be of interest to a diverse range of scholars, policy makers and practitioners inspiring innovation in how to address food poverty through surplus food recovery.

Reviews

“During the recent economic downturn there has been a saliency increase of issues of food security, waste reduction and surplus food recovery. This book represents an insightful and timely compendium of the main sector trends. It covers innovation in non-profit organisations, the emerging business opportunities for supply chain actors, and the new EU and national policies.” (Professor Alessio Cavicchi, University of Macerata, Managing Editor of the "International Food and Agribusiness Management Review)

“Using a prism of innovation the book opens up a new and fresh approach to difficult global challenges, and more importantly lays out best practices, and potential pathways to addressing the urgent needs of food security and waste reduction. I can’t think of a book that would be more instructive and useful for countries and institutions across the globe in co creating critical new approaches and polices around food security and waste reduction.” (Professor Bradley Googins, Senior Fellow, Lewis Institute on Social Innovation Babson College & 4EImpact Foundation)
