About the editors

Shantanu Bhattacharya (PhD) is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the Head of Design Program at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Prior to this he completed his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas and a PhD in Bio-engineering from the University of Missouri at Columbia, United States of America. He also completed a post-doctoral training at the Birck Nanotechnology Center at the Purdue University. Dr. Bhattacharya’s main research interests are Design and development of micro- nano sensors and actuation platforms, nano-energetic materials, micro and nanofabrication technologies, water  remediation using visible light photocatalysis and product design and development. He has many awards and accolades to his credit which includes the Institution of Engineers Young engineer award, the Institute of Smart structures and systems young scientist award, the national design research best mechanical engineering award, fellowship from the high energetic materials institute at Australia, fellowship of the Institution of Engineers of India etc. Dr. Bhattacharya has guided many PhD and masters students and has many international journal publications, patents, books and conference proceedings.

Ankur Gupta (PhD) is serving as a faculty in School of Mechanical Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar. Prior to this, Dr. Gupta completed a PhD degree from Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, M. Tech. in Production Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology BHU (Banaras Hindu University). Dr. Gupta has research interests in the areas of Nanostructure fabrication, Micro/nano sensors, water remediation and Advanced Manufacturing. He has to his credit the International society for energy, environment and sustainability (ISEES) Young Scientist award, BRICS Young Scientist award, the artistic micrography award etc. 

 A. B. Gupta (PhD) holds B.E. (Civil); M. Tech. and PhD (Environmental Science and Engineering) degrees. He joined MNIT as a lecturer of Civil Engineering in 1984 and is serving as a Professor since 1996. His assignments include HOD (Civil), Dean R&D, Dean (Faculty Affairs) and Director of the institute. The major areas of his research are Biological waste treatment; Environment and Health; and Environmental Modeling. He has published/presented over 300 papers in various international/national journals/conferences, guided ten PhDs and about 90 Masters’ theses, taken up several research/consultation projects, and received several academic awards. He has delivered many keynote addresses and invited talks at International/national conferences and institutions. He has been a non official member of RPCB and Environment and Health Board of Rajasthan State and important committees of DST, GOI.


Professor Ashok Pandey, PhD, FBRS, FRSB, FNASc, FIOBB, FISEES, FAMI is currently DistinguishedScientist at CSIR-Indian Institute for Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India and Honorary Executive Director at the Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability- India. He also holds the positions of Guest Professor in Jiangnan University, Wuxi, China; Adjunct Professor at VIT University, Vellore, Tamil Nadu; Adjunct Professor at MACFAST, Thiruvalla, Kerala and Adjunct Professor at Kalaslingam University, Krishnan Koil, Tamil Nadu. Formerly he was an Eminent Scientist at the Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing, Mohali and Chief Scientist & Head of Biotechnology Division at CSIR’s National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology at Trivandrum. His major research and technological development interests are in industrial and environmental biotechnology, which span over biomass to fuels & chemicals, waste to wealth/energy, industrial enzymes, and solid-state fermentation. Professor Pandey has around 1200 publications/communications, which include 16 patents,55 books, 132 book chapters, and 460 original and review papers. Professor Pandey is the recipient of many prestigious awards and fellowships, including Life-Time Achievement Award from the International Society for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (2017); Fellow of Royal Society of Biology, UK (2016); Academician of European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Germany (2016); Thomson Scientific India Citation Laureate Award, USA (2008); Lupin Visiting Fellowship, Best Scientific Work Achievement award, Govt of Cuba; UNESCO Professor; Raman Research Fellowship Award, CSIR; GBF, Germany and CNRS, France Fellowship.  Professor Pandey is the Founder President of the Biotech Research Society, India; International Coordinator of International Forum on Industrial Bioprocesses, France, Chairman of the International Society for Energy, Environment & Sustainability and Vice-President of All India Biotech Association. He also serves as an Editor-in-chief of Bioresource Technology, Honorary Executive Advisors of Journal of Water Sustainability and Journal of Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Subject editor of Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences (India) and editorial board member of several international and Indian journals. He is also a series editor of Current Developments in Biotechnology; and Bioengineering and Biomass, Biofuels and Biochemicals.
